Lockdown 2: Electric Boogaloo
A sonnet reflecting on the second lockdown in the UK:
Yet another half-assed attempt to quell
The looming tsunami: a second wave
I feel a prisoner in Plato’s cave
High on contrived narratives; scared as well
Another bandage for a bullet shell
Willing to send anyone to their grave
Just because their stocks need a quick save
Will we ever learn? Only time will tell
But the Earth rejoices fewer commutes
Quietly undressing now we’re back inside
Preparing to pull on her icy gown
Those who care are left to reap bitter fruits
While others picnic on those who have died
As we fumble through a second lockdown
